Ash Village Hall has been at the centre of village social life since it was built in 1912. It’s a place where meetings are convened, concerts performed, exhibitions held, classes taught, organisations meet, games enjoyed, and parties celebrated.
People come to discuss, debate, learn, chat, watch, play, dance, eat, drink, and laugh – a lot!
Then in March everything stopped. The Hall fell silent. Everyone stayed home. Stayed safe.
Now, we are looking to re-open again, swing wide the doors and welcome everyone back (safely of course!)
Life goes on, and village life has certainly not been ‘normal’ during 2020.
What does not change is that a building over 100 years old always needs maintenance and work – a new light bulb here, a lock fixing there, walls repainting, roof repairs etc. etc.
We look after our hall. We work hard to ensure we offer a clean and well-maintained space equipped to modern standards. We have been recognised by ACRK (Action with Communities in Rural Kent) receiving their highest award under the Hallmark Scheme for the general management of the premises and administration of the charity.
We are not complacent. We know that we must ensure our hall is well-used and well cared for.
And that’s where we need your help!
Its been a difficult year financially for most charities. Income has been virtually non-existent when everyone cancelled their events and stopped their usual activities in line with government advice.
Although we are re-opening in September, we expect many groups will not resume their regular meetings until next year and consequently our income will remain low.
We will proceed with essential maintenance work but many of our planned improvements are on hold.
By choosing us as your ‘good cause’ and buying tickets in the Dover Lotto you will allow us to improve and enhance our hall, to ensure it continues to be the centre of village life for the next 100 years.
Thank you for your support and good luck!
